I was waiting till the price dropped to buy "River Road", but happily it was on the shelf at the local library when I popped in, so I snapped it up.
Jayne Ann Krentz is one of my favourite authors; a comfort read. In "River Road" she steps back from the paranormal element she's been adding to her stories, and gives a classic romantic suspense set up.
There's a lot going on in this book. It's tantalising. A ton of good ideas and interesting characters get introduced, but not developed as much as they could be -- I always want MORE when it's a favourite author writing. I'm hoping this means that "River Road" is the start of a series.
There are wry observations, a strong heroine and hero, and a nice sense that life is complicated, but love navigates through it. I really liked the theme that real heroes are those who step up when responsibility comes knocking.
