Review
I know a lot of people are calling "The Silver Sickle" steampunk, but not me. It's science fiction and 1980s fantasy -- yum!
To me, there was something of "The Blue Sword" by Robin McKinley style of things. There was the strong heroine; the hero who isn't out to change the world, just save those he loves; the richly imagined world; and the moral dilemmas.
The moral dilemmas are interesting and well-developed. The science fiction element brings in intriguing possibilities that Ellie Ann twists and turns unexpectedly.
Others define steampunk differently, but for me I like a Victorian flavour to it - which isn't in "The Silver Sickle". Just explaining my opening point of view.
This is a quest story that works. I liked the opening where two characters know they're in love and the challenges that presents. Enjoy the adventure!
