This book is one of my favourites. Yes it has flaws. Yes there is drama into melodrama. Yes I don't usually like amnesia part-driving the plot. But the book is wonderful. It has a vulnerable heroine talking tough (in a daughter of the manse way). It weaves in quotations (love this!). It has a damaged hero who is yet so strong, a returned soldier. The book is set in post-WWII Britain. Who knows why some books resonate? Simply love it.
