Rayessa and the Space Pirates - Donna Maree Hanson
Who else remembers James H Schmitz's teenage heroine, Telzey? She was my first introduction to the perfect fit of a female teen protagonist and SF adventure. There's something about their vulnerability, sense of exploring the world and sheer courage that appeals. So I was delighted when Rayessa appeared.

As with Schmitz's work, Donna Maree Hanson creates a SF world that stays with you after the story ends. It's vivid, the ethical challenges are compelling and the characters are real.

Rayessa's story makes for a wonderful adventure.
