I do try to keep my internet presence politics-free, so a quick warning that this article is left-leaning. The critique of our current social model is interesting though, whatever your political beliefs. I read it initially offline (I know! Paper! how old-fashioned *grin*) but thought it worth bookmarking by sharing it here.

 

I believe in the fundamental decency of people, but I think having social structures and norms that make being good easier than being bad (however you want to define those terms) is vital because we're all so tired that we'll do whatever's easiest. Bucking the system is never easy, so having a good system is vital.

 

Yes, you do hear the stirrings of the sociology student I was 20 years ago. Maybe I should have kept up with the research and theory in that field since then?
